Services
Tailor-made solutions
Not every task can be solved with off-the-shelf software. I build tools and workflows that fit the way you actually work — web-based or not, whichever suits you better. And I make sure that you and your team can carry on with them on your own.
Development
I build business tools that replace overgrown spreadsheets and manual routines (Excel-to-X). This includes line-of-business applications and databases, interfaces between systems that do not talk to each other, as well as websites and editorial systems (CMS).
Automation & AI
Nobody should have to do recurring work by hand: data imports, evaluations, publishing, operations. Where it genuinely helps, I integrate language models (LLM) — for searching your own material, for working with text, for assistance in day-to-day business. Always paired with the question of which data ends up where.
Documentation
A solution is only as good as its documentation. I set up documentation systems — for your users as well as for your developers and editors — based on MkDocs, Sphinx, asciidoc or zpub. Whatever I implement, I document.
Project management
Not every project has to be implemented by me. I also support you in awarding it to someone else: preparing the tender, selecting service providers, translating between the subject-matter side and the technical side, monitoring the project and checking quality — in individual phases or across the entire term.
Technology & Open Source
I work with open standards and open-source software: GNU/Linux, Python, Django, Wagtail CMS, static site generators, Ansible, Git, Vue.js, Sphinx, MkDocs, zpub, Docbook, asciidoc, asciidoctor, antora. That keeps results verifiable and portable — what is created belongs to you, not to a licensing model.
Focus
A large part of my work is done at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law: software, tools and solutions for research and administration.
Working together
You deal with me directly — no account management, no layers in between. The best place to start is a conversation: you describe where things are stuck, and we look at whether and how it can be solved. Write to me: mail@thms.de.
